I was once quite hesitant to buy one after reading so some poor evaluations from differents.
I eliminated the crock from the box, washed the stone pot together with cleaning soap and heat water, and tossed within the elements for a white chili. 6 hours later it was perfect. The temperature atmospheres on this one are much better than our previous one. On our previous one "low" meant "slightly rolling boil after 3 hours" and "high" supposed "tastes similar to burning" (Thanks Ralph Wiggums!) in box you did not watch the pot.
This one is excellent, "low" is really "low" and "high" is just not going to spoil the meal. Plus, it will swap to "keep heat" routinely so it would not overcook something.
There were no ordinary scents from the unit (other than standard "first time use" odors from an appliance) and the gasket labored just superb.
We cook dinner 1-2 meals a week in cold weather accompanying our crock, so its getting a workout.
